Avoid a service provider that's unwilling to sign a compliance agreement, says David Rutchik, managing director of Pace Harmon, a Vienna, Virginia-based management and IT consulting firm. "If they aren't willing to stand behind their services, it's an absolute red flag. It's also a concern if the service provider isn't willing to assume liability for service breaches and provide some form of compensation for a significant event," he says.
