Practitioner Profiles

Tom, Associate

Tom has served clients in the wireless telecommunications and financial services industries on projects ranging from merger integration to vendor performance assessments. Most recently, he project managed a cell site consolidation program that resulted from the merger of two large wireless carriers, helping the client navigate the RFP, vendor down-select, and contract negotiations for site consolidation services. From assessment to implementation, responsibilities included financial modeling and forecasting, strategic advisory, and program execution of a project with a synergy target of over $300 million. Originally from Seattle, Tom is formerly a Product Development Engineer with the Boeing Company, where he participated in research and design on the Sonic Cruiser and 787 programs. Tom has a BSE in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University and a MA in International Relations from the University of Chicago.

Why I Joined Pace Harmon
"My previous employer was excellent and my colleagues were wonderful-it was a difficult choice to leave the aerospace industry. But after graduate school I wanted to work in an atmosphere where my projects were constantly changing-challenging me to continue learning. In my first year at Pace Harmon, I worked on 3 exciting projects. Pace Harmon was also attractive because of its smaller entrepreneurial atmosphere. Not only would I have the opportunity to impact the business performance of my clients, but I would be able to participate in the creation of a consulting firm with a renowned reputation."

About My Colleagues
"Practitioners at Pace Harmon work hard and bring a brilliant diversity of knowledge to the table, but don't take themselves too seriously. They are quite funny-not only do my colleagues know their business inside and out-they tell some remarkably clever jokes. This gives Pace Harmon a down to earth character that is probably unique among top consulting firms. Pace Harmon is also unique because of the access practitioners have to the partners and senior management, whom I have always found to be supportive and open to suggestions on how to improve firm performance."

The Kind of Work I Do
"Typical projects at Pace Harmon involve forecasting & business case development, vendor assessments & supplier negotiations, and in many cases, project management during implementation. In one project that I worked on, we had to forecast the estimated costs of using existing construction contractors to build out a multi-billion dollar next generation cellular phone network. On another project, my colleagues and I had to determine the cost savings from consolidating the existing cellular phone networks of two merged wireless carriers, and then develop a sourcing strategy that would best enable the client to achieve those savings. The problems we solve vary with each project, and it is rewarding for both me and my colleagues at Pace Harmon to develop solutions that are custom-tailored for our clients."

"Not only would I have the opportunity to impact the business performance of my clients, but I would be able to participate in the creation of a consulting firm with a renowned reputation."
